LAUREN FINED: Following what has been described as an air-rage incident aboard a John F. Kennedy International Airport-bound Delta Air Lines flight Monday, Jenny Lauren was fined 2,000 euros, or about $2,700 at current exchange, during a hearing Wednesday in Shannon, Ireland.
But the jewelry designer’s headaches might not end there. The two-hour delay of rerouting the plane to Shannon to have Lauren removed and subsequently arrested cost Delta nearly $40,000. Citing a report from Wednesday’s hearing, Jim Molloy, sergeant in the Shannon Garda press office, said the airline had to pay $17,000 for additional fuel, $17,000 for accommodations for passengers who missed their connecting flights and $5,000 for landing, handling and maintenance fees for the unexpected stop at Shannon Airport.

Lauren and representatives at her company did not respond to requests for comment Wednesday, nor did the Shannon-based solicitor, Sharon Curley, who represented her Wednesday at Killaloe District Court.

The 41-year-old Lauren, was held overnight in custody Monday at the Shannon Garda Station. Facing three charges — being intoxicated aboard a flight; offensive behavior on a flight, and exercising threatening, abusive and insulting behavior — Lauren pleaded guilty to two and was convicted under the Air Navigation and Transport Act of 1973, Molloy said. Her flight was rerouted to Shannon after the Delta crew determined that she was intoxicated to the extent that she could cause danger to the 200-plus passengers or crew.
Regarding Delta’s $17,000 loss for passengers’ hotel bills, Molloy said 70 stranded passengers required one-night stays and 27 needed two-night stays due to missed connecting flights.
