Lanvin to Showcase César Baldaccini Sculptures

Three of the artist’s monumental works will be on view in large vitrines in front of the fashion house's Paris flagship for a month beginning in mid-October.

LANVIN TO PLAY UP CESAR: As a lead-up to the November 1 opening of Luxembourg + Dayan’s “César” exhibition in New York City and the 40th edition of the FIAC art fair in Paris, Alber Elbaz will pay tribute to César Baldaccini’s role in modern French culture by curating a public presentation of three of the artist’s monumental sculptures. The loaners from the Fondation César will be on view in large vitrines in front of the Lanvin flagship on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré for a month beginning in mid-October. The homage is meant to honor the Nouveau Realiste’s bond to fashion. Over the course of his career, Baldaccini collaborated with Hermès, Nina Ricci, and Louis Vuitton among others.

Lanvin’s creative director is close friends with the Upper East Side gallery owners Amalia Dayan and Daniella Luxembourg. After they gave Elbaz the rundown on their plans for the show, shared the artist’s sculptures and gave him a copy of Etgar Keret’s exhibition book, the designer was sold on the project. Elbaz has another lasting tie to Dayan — he named a bag for her, “The Amalia.”
