SPORT SUPPORT: Lane Bryant unveiled an exclusive line of colorful plus-size sports bras from Marika, the Commerce, Calif.-based activewear company, at its Fox Hills store Thursday. “One thing about our customer is she wants to be supported and comfortable just like her size 6 friends, but by the same token, she wants to look sharp and sexy,” said Linda Lewis, Lane Bryant senior buyer, Cacique. The retail prices of the bras range from $38-$42. “I’m always looking for something that’s high performance and fashionable,” said Marika spokesperson Laila Ali, who made an appearance at the store. The retired professional boxer and fitness advocate said it’s important for women of all sizes to be able to exercise. Carrie Henley, executive vice president and general manager of Marika, said Ali encompasses everything the brand represents. “She’s a mother. She’s a professional athlete and conscious about health and fitness,” she said. The impetus to extend the product from the web into retail stores was customer demand, according to Lewis, who said Lane Bryant will be testing sales of the product in 28 locations nationwide before expanding into more stores.
