RUSSIAN DRESSING: Karl Lagerfeld has chosen a Russian theme for the next Bal de la Rose in Monaco, conceiving a decor inspired by constructivism and one of its principle instigators, Kazimir Malevich.

Lagerfeld has frequently referenced the artistic and architectural movement, whose zenith occurred between 1917 and 1921. For the March 29 event, the designer plans to outfit the Salles des Etoiles at Le Sporting Monte-Carlo with an array of colorful geometric motifs. The entrance hall is to be lined with enlarged versions of his invitation: a fashion illustration in the constructivist style.

Lagerfeld also designed special tables and linens that pay homage to Malevich.

Under the auspices of Prince Albert of Monaco and Princess Caroline of Hanover, the annual event raises money for the Princess Grace Foundation, a charity supporting various pediatric health initiatives. The foundation is marking its 50th anniversary this year.
