De Beers Exhibit Opens in Shanghai

Running until Sunday, the “Moments in Light” celebrates the works of female artists from China.

LADIES FIRST: De Beers on Tuesday opened the “Moments in Light” exhibition in Shanghai’s historic Sinan Mansions complex. Running until Sunday, the exhibition celebrates the works of female artists from China, drawing from diverse disciplines, including new media, photography, sculpture and filmmaking. According to De Beers brand director Jennie Farmer, each of the artists was given free rein to explore the “Moments in Light” theme. The artists — Peng Wei, Liang Yuanwei, Han Yajuan, Cui Xiuwen and renowned photographer Xiang Jing — were all on hand for the opening, joined on stage by exhibition curator, Liu Chenfeng.

But the star of the show was actress Zhang Jingchu, who is probably best known to Western audiences for her turn in the film “Rush Hour 3.” The starlet, who studied directing at Beijing’s Central Academy of Drama, contributed a short film to the exhibit and posed for photographs at the opening dripping in diamonds and trailed by three burly security guards. “The film illuminates a dreamlike world where joy bursts from the bottom of our hearts, delivering the most brilliant moments in life. Emotive words and promises make moments such as these as eternally beautiful as diamonds,” Zhang said.
