KEWSONG LEE JOINS CARLYLE GROUP: Kewsong Lee has joined The Carlyle Group as deputy chief investment officer for corporate private equity. Lee, 48, was a managing director of private equity firm Warburg Pincus. While at Warburg, Lee led numerous transactions, including the fund’s investment in The Neiman Marcus Group.
At Carlyle, he will report to co-chief executive officer William E. Conway, Jr., whom he will assist in activities in connection with the investing and managing of Carlyle’s corporate private equity platform. That platform consists of 11 buyout and growth capital funds totaling $58 billion in assets under management. He will also join the firm’s management and operating committees at Carlyle.
Lee joined Warburg in 1992, and was a member of its executive management group. He also led the firm’s consumer, industrial and services group. Before Warburg, Lee was a consultant at McKinsey & Co. Inc.
