THIRTYSOMETHING: “Young people should feel very welcome in a group like Kering,” Francois-Henri Pinault, the firm’s chief executive, told a press conference Friday to kick off a new internship program in collaboration with Vogue Italia.
The French business titan noted that Stella McCartney was all of 30, and Lee Alexander McQueen, 31, when they became part of Gucci Group (which then became part of PPR, now dubbed Kering). He also rattled off the ages of its latest recruits. Balenciaga’s Alexander Wang is 28, while Joseph Altuzarra and Christopher Kane, the latest to receive Kering backing, are 30 and 31 respectively.
Franca Sozzani, Vogue Italia’s editor in chief said her Vogue Talents program is tracking at least 200 young people through its Who’s on Next initiative, plus at least 300 students at various schools.

Addressing a crowd that included a roster of Italian ceos, Pinault said theposts at 9 Kering brands in France, Italy and Switzerland would allow the winners to “learn by doing in a real-world environment.”
The partnership will offer 23 posts in areas such as design, merchandising, visual display, digital and communications, with the magazine and its Web site spearheading the selection process.
