KATE AND WILLIAM’S RED CARPET TURN: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge graced the red carpet Sunday evening, when they attended the premiere of Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of “War Horse” in London’s Leicester Square. The royal couple were guests at the premiere in support of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry. Earlier on Sunday, the foundation announced its support of the Forces in Mind Trust, a new body of charities and mental health organizations launched to help former service men and women transition to civilian life.
Kate wore a floor-sweeping black lace gown by Temperley for the premiere, while William wore a black-tie suit. He gallantly held an umbrella for Kate to shield her from the London drizzle as the couple walked the red carpet. They were joined at the premiere by Spielberg and a number of the film’s actors, including Benedict Cumberbatch, David Thewlis and Emily Watson, along with the author of the original “War Horse” book, Michael Morpurgo.
The premiere comes on the eve of Kate’s 30th birthday, which St. James’s Palace has said she’s planning to spend in “low-key” fashion. The statement followed British press reports that Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton were cooking up a high octane bash for the Duchess’ birthday, but instead she’s expected to spend it with William, close friends and family.
