CHRISTIAN’S TRUMP CARD: Speaking of the Met, Melania Trump has opted to wear Christian Siriano. “I wanted to have a fierce dress to wear,” said Trump. “He’s known for fierce, young, glamorous, elegant, sexy, big and beautiful,” she added of the 24-year-old winner of “Project Runway.” “He thinks out of the box, and nowadays, it’s great when designers do that, especially for an occasion like this. The [Costume Institute] gala is the Oscars of fashion.” Of working with Trump, who is married to Donald Trump, Siriano said: “It’s quite surreal to be invited over to the house.” While celebrity clients are always a coup (Siriano dressed Rihanna for a Super Bowl kickoff party), the designer is working on building his wholesale business. His collection is sold at select Saks Fifth Avenue doors, and for fall, will bow at three Neiman Marcus locations. Siriano also sells to small boutiques in the U.S., two stores in Dubai and two in Kuwait. And after designing a claw-heeled shoe collection for Payless in March, Siriano has graduated to “a more contemporary designer shoe,” under his own name, priced from $200 to $400.
