IN STITCHES: The British women’s wear brand Karen Millen is ready to highlight its artisanal assets later this year, with a pop-up atelier on Selfridges ground floor. The space, which will be open in August and September near the store’s Karen Millen concession, will resemble the brand’s airy east London atelier where samples are made, and will offer bespoke jackets, suits, skirts, dresses, and coats. Customers will be able to choose their own fabrics, linings, embroidery, and pocket styles. Prices will start at 600 pounds, or $930 at current exchange, for a bespoke jacket. “We’re celebrating our craftsmanship,” said Gemma Metheringham, Millen’s managing director. “Not many people know that all of our collections start with a pencil drawing and a piece of fabric, and that our process is artisanal.” Even Millen’s off-the-peg looks are getting special treatment for fall. Metheringham said the brand has taken a fresh look at its jacket shapes, and the new jackets are more constructed and tailored than in the past.
