WINNER BY DESIGN: Julien David, a graduate of Parsons The New School for Design, has won the 2012 Andam Fashion Award, with an endowment of 230,000 euros, or $286,850 at current exchange rates. The prize will enable him to grow his label, launched in 2008.
The second prize — 60,000 euros or $75,000 — went to knit brand Pièce d’Anarchive, founded by sisters Priscilla and Deborah Royer and their friend Virginie Muys. They also win the use of the La Suite space in department store Galeries Lafayette as a showroom to develop their brand.
Having a Parisian project in view is a prerequisite to be eligible for the prize. The winner will also receive two seasons’ worth of mentoring from Pierre-Yves Roussel, chief executive officer of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s fashion division, as well as a donation of Swarovski Elements valued at 10,000 euros, or $12,500.
The fall lines of all six finalists — Julien David, Cédric Charlier, Vika Gazinskaya, Calla Haynes, Thomas Tait and Nicolas Andreas Taralis — are due to go on sale this September on Thecorner.com, Andam’s exclusive online retail partner.
Past Andam winners include Giles Deacon, Gareth Pugh and, most recently, Anthony Vaccarello.
