Hugo Boss’ loss could be Joseph Abboud’s gain. Joseph Abboud is promoting its American-made suits to Hollywood after Workers United, a union with apparel and textile manufacturing workers, enlisted Danny Glover to call upon his fellow actors to boycott Hugo Boss on the Oscar red carpet Sunday because of Hugo Boss’ shuttering in April of its lone U.S. plant in Ohio with 300-plus workers. Joseph Abboud manufactures suits at a facility with around 500 employees in New Bedford, Mass. “When it became clear that Danny Glover had an issue with what Hugo Boss was doing, we thought it would be fun to get them into a made in America suit,” said Marty Staff, chief executive officer of Joseph Abboud, referring to Academy Award attendees. “So far, there seems to be a lot of interest.” What does Staff think Hollywood’s finest will be wearing on the red carpet for their strolls seen around the world? He insists the suits won’t be boring. “There is going to be color and texture,” he speculated. “We’re at a time when men want to be a little more joyous.”
