WESTERN WAYS: Jaeger-LeCoultre’s chief executive officer Jerome Lambert spent time on the West Coast recently to toast the opening of the luxury watch brand’s 600-square-foot South Coast Plaza store with a 40-person dinner at Marche Moderne. The store will be the first U. S. location implementing the retail concept unveiled at the Place Vendôme store last month in Paris. A week later, a similar-sized store, the company’s 51st worldwide, will open at the Wynn Las Vegas, carrying about 150 timepieces. “In 2008 the West Coast was hurting more than our other regions so it took longer to recover, but it’s coming back even stronger now,” Lambert said. Looking forward, Lambert emphasized the importance of ladies’ watches and the trend toward mechanical movements, a feat of engineering given their smaller size. Diane Kruger is the current face for the brand’s Rendez-Vous timepiece. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s fifth U.S. retail store will open in Palm Beach early next month.
