HOLA, DIEGO: Tod’s Group president Diego Della Valle tossed a party Tuesday night for the newly renovated Tod’s store on Calle Ortega y Gasset, Madrid’s premier shopping street. The new space coincides with the opening of Tod’s first shop-in-shop at El Corte Inglés, Spain’s giant department store chain. In addition, the brand operates a franchised store in Puerto Banús, Marbella.
“Spain is an important — and successful — market for us,” Della Valle confirmed. “And, no, I am not afraid of the weak economy here. The Spanish people are strong and proud, much like us Italians.” With a two-level, 2,153-square-foot selling space, the Madrid location is double the size of the old unit.
Later, Della Valle hosted a dinner party in Madrid’s exclusive Nuevo Club, founded in the late 19th century as a private men’s club. The guest list included royalty-related socialites, Spanish TV personalities, models and a bullfighter, Francisco Rivera. The local fashion crowd was represented by Agatha Ruiz de la Prada (in signature stripes and red stockings); designers Roberto Torretta and David Delfín with his muse and business partner, Bimba Bosé, and model Nieves Alvarez, in a bicolored sleeveless dress by Italian designer Alessandro Dell’Acqua, chatting up her children’s line for boys and girls ages 2 to 12.
