THE EARLY SHOW?: The debate over the show calendar is becoming increasingly knotty. According to sources, Italian designers are mulling three options: to show in July; to stay put; or to move before New York Fashion Week. As reported, the spring 2013 shows are slated to kick off in New York on Sept. 13, a date that does not sit well with the Italian Chamber of Fashion. The association has accused the Council of Fashion Designers of America of forcing the calendar on the Italians. “Italian designers are putting up a united front and they are very determined on choosing what’s best for them,” said one industry source. In 2008, the governing fashion organizations of four fashion capitals — New York, London, Milan and Paris — agreed to kick off the collections season on the second Thursday in February and September. The Italian Chamber of Fashion claims the second Thursday rule was only for a three-year term, contrary to the CFDA’s conviction, and wants to avoid showing too late in September because of production issues. The Italians’ decision is expected at the end of October.
