NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: Japanese designer Issey Miyake’s creations will be showcased as part of “Gathering: from domestic craft to contemporary process,” an exhibition of contemporary designers curated by trend forecaster Li Edelkoort that will go on show at the Design Museum Holon in Israel from July 3 to Oct. 25. Miyake’s award-winning 132 5. collection, which is inspired by origami folds and made from recyclable fabrics, will be displayed in the museum’s lower gallery, Edelkoort said at a presentation at the Issey Miyake headquarters in Paris.

The exhibition will feature works by designers including Tord Boontje, Erwan & Ronan Bouroullec, Arik Levy, Inga Sempé and Patricia Urquiola that reflect traditional domestic crafts through the use of techniques like pleating, draping, layering, needleworking, knitting and baking, among others.

“We are an unstitched society suffering from a lasting socioeconomic crisis that has made us ferociously protective and egocentric. It is time for mending and gathering, thus restoring the fabric of society,” Edelkoort said. “It’s a bit like an old sock that we are mending.”

Separately, Miyake will create a light-filled installation in the garden and along the ground floor of the Fondation Cartier in Paris as part of “Vivid Memories,” an exhibition starting on May 10 to mark the institution’s 30th anniversary.
