OPEN SEASON: New York is getting ready for all things tennis as the U.S. Open approaches, kicking off on Aug. 29. Rafael Nadal will no doubt pack the house on Thursday, Aug. 25, when he shows off his new Armani jeans campaign at Macy’s Herald Square flagship.
Two nights later, unlikely as it sounds, the Polish Consulate in New York will be party central, with Caroline Wozniacki, Samantha Stosur, Agnieszka Radwanska and other leading players of Polish descent expected. The lengthy guest list also includes such players as Sabine Lisicki, Daniela Hantuchova, Angelique Kerber of Germany and two-time Australian Open champion Johan Kriek, as well as heavyweight boxer Tomasz Adamek and world-class swimmer Pawel Korzeniowski.
