Lacoste’s new holiday collector’s series of polos, created in collaboration with Brazilian industrial designers Fernando and Humberto Campana, will hit stores on Nov. 1. The range includes three different designs for men and women, at prices ranging from $165 to $7,000. A special edition polo retails for $165 and features a logo of eight clustered crocodiles, based on a chair the Campana brothers previously designed. The style will be available at Lacoste boutiques, Lacoste.com and the Manhattan unit of Barneys New York, with 20,000 pieces available globally. Another design, which retails for $1,900 for women’s and $2,900 for men’s, featuring dozens of crocodiles covering the shirts, will come in a run of only 250 shirts, and be available only at the Moss stores in New York and Los Angeles. Moss is also the sole retailer for a super-limited edition design, with only 24 pieces available worldwide, made entirely from crocodile logos hand-sewn in a pattern resembling lace and retailing for $5,000 for women’s and $7,000 for men’s. This is the fourth year of Lacoste’s holiday collector’s series, with previous collaborators including Tom Dixon, Michael Young and Michael Stipe.
CORRE DEPARTS AGENT PROVOCATEUR: Joe Corre has quit Agent Provocateur, the lingerie label he founded 15 years ago with his then-wife Serena Rees. Garry Hogarth, chief executive officer of Agent Provocateur, said Tuesday that Corre, the son of Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren, had left the business last week. “[Corre] has a men’s wear business, Child of the Jago, and he’s very much into music — he just wanted to do some other things,” said Hogarth, who was named ceo when private equity group 3i took a majority stake in Agent Provocateur in 2007. Corre still holds a minority stake in the company. Sarah Shotton, Agent Provocateur’s head creative designer, will continue to oversee the collections and the firm is continuing on its expansion trail with plans to open seven stores over the next year. Agent Provocateur also has signed a license with British company BJB to produce a jewelry line, which will launch for the holiday season, and is close to signing a new fragrance license. The firm is also negotiating licenses for bedding, vintage-style sunglasses and umbrellas.
FINALLY IN RETAIL: Microsoft’s first retail outlet will open in Scottsdale Fashion Square later this fall. The software giant’s long-awaited brick-and-mortar store will open in the Nordstrom wing of Macerich’s Phoenix-area shopping center, which also houses retailers like Burberry, Hugo Boss, St. John, Tiffany & Co., Juicy and Pottery Barn. The store will carry items like laptops, games and gaming devices and software, and early plans called for a huge video display wall and interactive areas to customize computers; the company brought on former Wal-Mart veteran David Porter early this year as vice president of retail stores to oversee the rollout.
The firm signed a second retail lease for the Shops at Mission Viejo, a Simon property in Orange County, Calif. The second store is slated to open later this year, with additional doors to come in 2010.
TOMAS’ ART: Tomas Maier will present the work of three artists, including jeweler Tom Binns, at his Miami boutique during Art Basel Miami Beach, the art fair coming up in early December. He will host an evening with a personal appearance by Binns, who will introduce a collection inspired by Dada. Maier also will present works by Massimo Vitali, whose oversize photographs feature the public at leisure on beaches, at ski resorts and other tourist locales and exhibit a selection of handcrafted mirrors by Christian Astuguevieille, whose work is inspired by Surrealism and African and Pacific Art.
ARTS AND CRAFTS: On Nov. 12, Miriam Haskell and Christie’s New York will hold a luncheon to celebrate the auction house’s upcoming photograph sale on Dec. 7. The event will be hosted by Gabrielle Fialkoff, Lydia Fenet, Natalie Kaplan and Sarah Shepard and will showcase the works of Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton and Horst P. Horst, paired with the latest Haskell designs. In anticipation of the pairing, Henri Bendel will feature the Christie’s photographs and Haskell’s jewelry in their Fifth Avenue windows from Oct. 27 through Nov. 2.
