International Herald Tribune Addicted to Dior

Editors attending Paris shows Friday were handed copies of the newspaper in a folder-style advertisement plugging the brand's new Addict lipstick.

MISSING A BEAT: Call it poor timing. Editors attending Paris fashion shows Friday were handed copies of the International Herald Tribune in a folder-style advertisement plugging the new Dior Addict lipstick. Given John Galliano’s recent dismissal from Dior due to anti-Semitic rants, eyebrows were raised at what seemed to be an unintentional gaffe. On Thursday, the designer issued a statement saying he is “seeking help” for what is believed to be alcohol addiction. "I can't comment on ads that appear in my paper,” said Suzy Menkes, the IHT’s fashion editor. “I don't see them beforehand and have nothing to do with that in my paper." A Parfums Christian Dior spokesman could not be reached for comment. The campaign for Dior Addict — which comes one decade after the first lipstick collection with the same moniker — stars Kate Moss. The version appearing with the IHT had on its cover a silhouette of Moss and on the back an image of the lipstick. Inside, there was the ad photographed by David Sims and stills from the video clip shot by Jonas Akerland.
