IN THE HOUSE: John Galliano was nowhere to be seen anywhere near the front-of-house at Oscar de la Renta’s Tuesday-night show, while visitors were not allowed backstage. Had the fallen-from-grace Dior designer had a look, he would have found a few unexpected supporters at the show, including Valentino, Giancarlo Giammetti, Diane von Furstenberg, Barry Diller and Mario Testino. When de la Renta stepped out for a final bow, Karlie Kloss and Magdalena Frackowiak weren’t the only ones keeping him company — a burly security guard also made his presence known to the crowd.
While a stream of well-wishers queued up to congratulate the designer, Valentino warmly embraced Annette de la Renta, telling her how pretty the collection was. After posing with Rachel Zoe for an iPhone photo taken by her husband, Rodger Berman, de la Renta talked a bit — though not in great detail — about his new alliance and the show. Asked what it meant for him personally, he said, “As a designer, you love every collection.” As for Galliano’s involvement, he said, “Well, you know, more than three-quarters of the collection was already done.”
Where this friendship, kinship, courtship is headed is anyone’s guess, “We have a great love affair,” was all de la Renta would say.
