IN THE HOT SEAT: Building off the inaugural season of the interview series “Fashion Icons with Fern Mallis,” Mallis is ready for her second act at New York’s 92nd Street Y. Diane von Furstenberg will get things rolling on Sept. 12 — in the throes of fashion week nonetheless. After that will be Marc Jacobs on Nov. 6, followed by Polly Mellen on Dec. 12 and Betsey Johnson on Jan. 16. Tickets for the individual talks or the series go on sale Wednesday through 92Y’s Web site.
Industry types may know the backstories about Mallis’ guests, but many 92Y-goers are less up to speed. “A lot of the people who come to these talks do not know a lot about the designers, and they are completely intrigued about how they became successful,” she said.
Mallis’ discussions will also air on her SiriusXM show, which is broadcast the first Tuesday of every month. The 92Y is considering live-streaming what in the past have been tell-all-type talks, due partially to Tom Ford drawing a sell-out crowd, which required a live video feed in a second auditorium. Mallis is still finalizing the roster for the second part of the 2013 season.
