UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL: Berlinale co-partner Hugo Boss got a jump start on the Berlin Film Festival action Wednesday night with a pre-opening party and special preview of “A Personal Touch — Young Photo Journalists at the Red Carpet.” The images on display in a raw space directly next to the brand’s new flagship on Kurfürstendamm were selected from “Close-Up,” a competition organized by the photo gallery C/O Berlin and the Berlinale. Literally hands-on, any number of unidentified digits fondled backs, waists or mimicked the Berlinale bear’s pose in 12 atypical takes of red carpet moments.
As for Wednesday’s young star-studded crowd, Boss pulled in a full cast of Germany’s best twenty- to thirtysomething screen talent, plus some cross-border guests like Alain Fabien Delon, who flew in just for the night, and Tom Payne, whose face as “The Physician” or “Der Medicus” is still lighting up billboards all over town. Hugo was the Boss label of choice for the evening’s leading men. Actor Moritz Bleibtreu noted the trim silhouette is a “motivation to keep in shape. The fit’s just right, but if you forget yourself for two days, forget it!”
Delon Jr., also looking sleek in Hugo, is ready to put fashion behind him, at least in his role as a runway model. Having recently closed Gucci’s January men’s wear show, he told WWD, “I want to act more now. There’s no stress in acting. You do it and leave it, but there’s so much stress with modeling. You always have five guys around you, pulling hairs off your clothes,” he said. “Plus in modeling, you don’t feel like your part of it. The creative process, I mean,” he explained.
