HILFIGER TAKES 10: As part of the American in Paris showroom initiative, the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund has had 10 designers customize a Tommy Hilfiger trenchcoat. Billy Reid made it more manly with a detachable leather vest, Prabal Gurung softened it up with hand-stenciled black lace and Monique Péan went with a cape with navy blue twill.
Hilfiger, whose company is supporting the second season of AIP, said, “I know firsthand how difficult it can be to enter the fashion industry, and I believe designers benefit from supporting and inspiring one another.” Hilfiger and the 10 up-and-comers will be toasted at a cocktail party Friday night in the Paris home of U.S. Ambassador Charles Rivkin and Susan Tolson. The American in Paris showroom will be housed at Galerie Joyce at the Palais Royal from Saturday through Monday. Albertus Swanepoel, Creatures of the Wind, George Esquivel, Gregory Parkinson, Ohne Titel, Pamela Love and Simon Spurr are the other labels participating.
Each designer produced three trenches in their respective design that will be available starting Saturday at Hilfiger’s New York and Paris flagships. An additional set will be sold in Europe via the designer’s Web site starting March 12. Stateside, the asking price is $298, and in Europe shoppers will pay will pay 230 euros, or $308.20 at current exchange. All sale proceeds will go toward the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.
