BOOK CLUB: The partnership between Hermès International and Actes Sud keeps on growing. The French publishing house will publish booklets about eight artists who completed residencies at the luxury house in 2010 and 2011 as part of a program run by the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès, which supports cultural and philanthropic projects.
The artists conceived and executed a work of art, using materials such as leather, silk, precious metals or crystal, with the help of craftsmen working at the various Hermès production sites in France. The eight tomes — which come with a portfolio by photographer Tadzio and a documentary DVD — will go on sale on Oct. 3 for 35 euros, or $45 at current exchange.
The following eight, featuring artists from the 2012 and 2013 residencies, will be published next year. The 16 works produced by the various artists are set to go on show in summer 2013 at the Palais de Tokyo contemporary art museum in Paris.
Hermès announced earlier this year that it was jointly editing a series of books with Actes Sud, starting with a lexicon of terms used in its workshops to describe techniques used to produce everything from leather Birkin bags to crystal glasses.
Hermès has previously collaborated with Actes Sud on a bookstore inside its flagship store on the Left Bank in Paris, and a temporary bookstore at its Saut Hermès annual show-jumping event at the Grand Palais.
