HEAVY METAL: Adèle Exarchopoulos can soon add another Cannes trophy to her collection. The young French actress, who jointly won the Palme d’Or award last year with director Abdellatif Kechiche and her costar Léa Seydoux for the lesbian coming-of-age drama “Blue Is the Warmest Color,” will be the female recipient of the annual Trophée Chopard this year.
Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett is to hand over the prize, which recognizes up-and-coming talent, to Exarchopoulos and “Percy Jackson” star Logan Lerman at a ceremony at the Hôtel Martinez in Cannes, France, on May 15.
The winners were selected by a jury including Colin Firth; Harvey Weinstein; Atom Egoyan; Lee Daniels; Steve Gaydos, executive editor of Variety, and Caroline Scheufele, copresident of Chopard. Previous winners of the award, now in its 14th edition, include Marion Cotillard, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Diane Kruger. Chopard also makes the Palme d’Or bestowed on the winning film at Cannes.
Exarchopoulos has won a slew of awards in the last year, including the prize for Most Promising Actress at the César Awards, France’s equivalent to the Oscars. The 20-year-old appeared alongside Seydoux in Miu Miu’s 2014 resort ad campaign and has attended fashion shows by Miu Miu, Valentino, Louis Vuitton and Dior Homme.
