Hussein Chalayan's Fashion Tome... Fred Hayman Back on Rodeo... Apfel's Eye...

TURNING A PAGE: An upcoming retrospective in July at Paris’ Les Arts Décoratifs museum and now a book — Hussein Chalayan is having a bumper year. Entitled “Hussein Chalayan” — published by Rizzoli with contributions from fashion writers Judith Clark, Sarah Mower and Susannah Frankel — the 276-page tome, which includes 250 color illustrations, charts the designer’s career from his student days in Turkey and London to his rise as a fashion figure who branched out into installations, videos and photographs along the way. The title will be out in September and will retail for $85.

HAYMAN BACK ON RODEO: Rodeo Drive retail legend Fred Hayman will be the 15th recipient of Rodeo Drive Walk of Style award, following previous honorees Grace Kelly, Cartier, Valentino, Manolo Blahnik, James Galanos, Gianni and Donatella Versace, Salvatore Ferragamo, Edith Head, James Acheson, Milena Canonero, Herb Ritts, Mario Testino, Tom Ford and Giorgio Armani. The induction will take place on May 31 at the corner of Rodeo Drive and Dayton Way, where the iconic yellow and white Giorgio Beverly Hills awnings once hung. A biography of Hayman, titled “Fred Hayman: The Story of Rodeo Drive, Hollywood Glamour and the Showman Who Sold It All,” by Rose Apodaca, also makes its debut this month.

APFEL’S EYE ON DESIGN: Iris Apfel is launching today a jewelry collection in partnership with HSN. Surprisingly, the longtime accessories collector, who is never seen without her signature oversize black round glasses, has until now never dabbled in design (the Metropolitan Museum of Art even hosted an exhibit in her honor in 2005). “HSN has a proven track record to reproduce museum-quality jewelry and accessories at an affordable price, which allows me to bring my passion for the stylishly off-beat to the general public,” Apfel said.

The 13-piece Rara Avis by Iris Apfel line fuses modern and vintage elements and features brightly colored chunky necklaces, bracelets and brooches. Fashioned from Lucite, mixed metals and beaded materials, offerings will range from $20 to $180. “I have amassed an enormous collection of bags, belts, bangles and beads without which I would be lost. One can change the entire look of an outfit by substituting one accessory for another. I love objects from different worlds, different eras, combined my way. Never uptight, achieving — hopefully — a kind of throwaway chic,” Apfel said.
