HARVEY NICHOLS’ COMIC STRIP: Harvey Nichols is taking a tongue-in-cheek approach to showcasing its fall collections. The London department store has tapped the cartoon model Polly Bean, a creation of artist Neil Kerber, to model creations by designers including Isabel Marant, Victoria Beckham and Meadham Kirchhoff for its fall 2012 look book. The Polly Bean character is known in the U.K. as one of the characters in Kerber’s “Supermodels” comic strip, which appears in British satirical magazine Private Eye. Kerber has also penned witty poems to accompany each of the looks.
“[Harvey Nichols] have been wonderful in the way they have dealt with Polly, and I am so glad they seem to really enjoy what I do,” said Kerber.
A spokeswoman for Harvey Nichols added: “We like to have a bit of fun here at Harvey Nichols and thought Polly could make a fabulous ambassador for our exciting new [fall] collections.” The look book will be sent to Harvey Nichols’ top customers as a preview to the fall season, and the Knightsbridge store will also display life-size cutout images of Bean at their fall press day in April.
