DEVISING A NEW BAGUETTE: Fendi’s most famous handbag is getting a high-tech makeover in Asia, thanks to the “Design Your Dream Baguette” competition. More than 20,000 designers from Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand entered the contest, submitting computer-generated sketches of their fresh takes on the iconic bag celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. An exhibition at Hong Kong’s Harbour City, running Friday to Aug. 11, will display the work of the 50 finalists. The top five winners — selected by Silvia Venturini Fendi herself — will be revealed on the last day of the show. For their prize, the lucky five get to visit Fendi’s headquarters in Rome and Milan and attend the house’s spring runway show during Milan Fashion Week. The Hong Kong exhibit, entitled “FENDI 10+ Exhibition — Asia Finale,” also will feature a silent auction of more than 30 Baguettes designed by artists and celebrities from around Asia. The proceeds will help fund the contest winners’ trip to Italy.
