HADID’S NEW GIG: Stuart Weitzman has tapped architect Zaha Hadid to redesign the brand’s 3,500-square-foot Milan flagship. The new design will be unveiled during Milan Fashion Week in September and include innovative concepts such as display screens with sensors that turn into functional mirrors when a customer stands in front of them. “It will embrace the functionality of how you go into a store and shop. It’s architectural art that is also a functional, enjoyable place,” Stuart Weitzman vice chairman Wayne Kulkin told WWD, adding that the revamped store’s color palette will include shades of pale gray, flesh and white with artistic shelving designed to provide flexibility that varies by season. “There is tremendous fluidity between fashion and architecture — we see exciting possibilities for much greater cross-pollination between the disciplines. Our collaboration with Stuart Weitzman will reinvent this relationship,” Hadid said. Weitzman and Kulkin said they would like to implement the same concept in key global locations like Rome, Hong Kong, Shanghai and New York City.
