GRAND OLD FLAG: Tapping into Britain’s Olympic spirit, Marks & Spencer has teamed with Oxfam and young students from East London to create a giant Union Jack flag out of used clothing. The flag is made out of 2,100 red, white and blue clothes donated to M&S through its clothes-recycling campaign, and was put together in West Ham Park, in East London. The clothing used for the installation will be reused, resold or recycled via Oxfam. The ongoing M&S “Shwopping” clothes recycling campaign aims to motivate people to live more sustainably. “The money we raise in our shops from their generous donations makes a huge difference in supporting our work around the world, such as with the current food crisis in West Africa,” said Sarah Farquhar, a spokeswoman for Oxfam, “The Olympics have been an inspiring example of Britain at its best. Our Union Jack was a way of celebrating this once-in-a-lifetime event, and saying thank you to the people that continue to support us.”
