GOLDIE’S TURN: Turnaround for Children honored Goldie Hawn Wednesday evening at its third annual Impact Awards Dinner at The Plaza in Manhattan. Headed by founder Dr. Pamela Cantor and former event planner Simone Levinson, Turnaround for Children was established to target overlooked problems in New York City’s public schools. The charity honored Hawn for her efforts in improving educational opportunities for disadvantaged children. The actress’ own cause, The Hawn Foundation, has developed “Mind Up,” a special curriculum designed, according to the actress, to improve children’s “social-emotial skills…manage their stress and learn how their brains work, giving their emotions context.”

Supporter Donna Karan embraced the evening’s cause in the hopes that by laying the groundwork for a fair start, city children in lower-performing schools could eventually have access to arts education. “Goldie has done the most amazing job at manifesting the dream that I [also] have to bring the mind, body and spirit to education,” said Karan, who presented her first fashion show in her public high school on Long Island. “We live in chaos, so if you have the tools, then everything else will come.”
