GENNETTE TO BE HONORED: Jeff Gennette, chief merchandising officer of Macy’s Inc., has a feeling for McDonald’s. Not so much the cuisine; more the legacy of Ray Kroc, who built McDonald’s into a fast-food empire, and the Ronald McDonald House. “I actually grew up in San Diego where the Krocs lived. They were the patron saints. When you lived in San Diego, you knew about the Krocs,” he said.

On Monday, Gennette gets honored at Ronald McDonald House New York’s annual gala, at the Waldorf-Astoria, for his efforts helping the cause. Ronald McDonald House New York provides a “home-away-from-home” for pediatric cancer patients and their families.

The house accommodates 84 families and gets filled almost every night. Gennette was introduced to the House two-and- a-half years ago by Tina Lundgren, who is on the board of Ronald McDonald House New York. She’s the wife of Terry J. Lundgren, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Macy’s Inc., a major supporter of Ronald McDonald House in Manhattan and other cities. “Jeff really connected with the families who are struggling to maintain normalcy. He kind of felt that calling to make a difference,” said Tina Lundgren. For Monday’s gala, she expects a record attendance and a take of upward of $5 million. “I think we are going to be at maximum capacity, probably 2,000 people,” she said. Joseph DiMenna, managing director of Zweig-DiMenna Associates, and philanthropist Diana DiMenna are also honorees.
