GAY TIDINGS: Mayor Michael Bloomberg was the guest of honor at the Emporio Armani store in New York’s SoHo on Monday evening, where the Empire State Pride Agenda held a cocktail party to celebrate the marriage equality bill passed in June. “To me, New York has always been a place where you can be what you want...and you can love anybody that you want,” said Bloomberg to the assembled crowd, which included A|X Armani Exchange chief executive officer Harlan Bratcher and Gerald and Kate Hathaway, the parents of actress Anne Hathaway. “The bottom line is that it’s not the government’s business who you love. When people talk about conservative values, that is the conservative value — of keeping government out of your personal life.”

Bloomberg added it was crucial to reelect the four Republican lawmakers who crossed the aisle to vote for the marriage bill, in order to send a message to other states where the issue could come up for a vote. “And maybe will give some of our federal legislators and our President some impetus — I don’t want to phrase it the way I was thinking — that this is just one of those issues we should get on with.”

The event was a follow-up to a fund-raiser hosted by Giorgio Armani for ESPA earlier this summer. “We as a company are going to play an important role in involvement with local communities in different parts of the country,” noted Graziano de Boni, ceo of Giorgio Armani Corp.
