BLURRED LINES: “Mind the step!” the ushers repeated over and over as guests filed into the venue for Christian Dior’s spring couture show in Paris on Monday, an all-white set with futuristic curved walls.
The intimate space was rapidly throbbing as celebrities including Kate Bosworth, Allison Williams, Olga Kurylenko, Isabelle Huppert, A$AP Rocky and a pregnant Audrey Marnay were swarmed by photographers and television crews.
“I feel like we’re in nightclub right now. It’s crazy!” exclaimed Bosworth, flanked by her husband Michael Polish. The couple, who met on the set of “Big Sur” in 2011, have worked together again on “Unconscious,” a thriller about a man who loses his memory after an accident, and gradually suspects his wife is not who she seems.
“I don’t know any characters in the world that are like this,” Bosworth said of her role. “I mean, it’s very sort of Hitchcock, kind of ‘Twilight Zone.’ With Michael such a visionary, the look of the movie is incredibly beautiful, but it’s a very twisted woman and plot.”
Marisa Berenson was also suffering from sensory overload. “I’m on another planet! Where are we?” she joked, greeting Dior chief executive officer Sidney Toledano.
Williams, attending her first couture show, looked flawless in head-to-toe Dior – unlike her character Marnie on “Girls,” who is seen unraveling at the start of season three of the hit television series.
“If I do my job right, she’ll continue to fall apart at a rate that is Marnie-like,” she said. “It’s so fun, because when I started playing her, she was all squared away, everything was fine, and now of course everything’s gone wrong, and for an actress, that’s the ultimate challenge – playing the same person in entirely different circumstances.”
Kurylenko was biding time after the male lead of her new movie dropped out, delaying the shoot – but she wasn’t fussy about his replacement. “I don’t care. There are so many great actors, so I couldn’t pick one,” she shrugged. “As long as they’re nice people, I’m great.”
Leelee Sobieski announced she has retired from acting. “It was never my big passion. I always wanted to be a painter and now I love being a mom, so that comes first,” she said. “I think I just hibernate, and then I pop out at the Dior shows.”
The display also brought out two legendary models from founder Christian Dior’s Fifties heyday: Bettina Graziani and Victoire Doutreleau. The latter has been in the headlines in recent weeks, as she features heavily in Jalil Lespert’s recent biopic on Yves Saint Laurent.
“I feel like I am no longer around – as if I were gone and people were talking about me in my absence. It’s very bizarre and it’s also very moving, because the actor is very good, and it feels like being reunited with Yves,” she said of Pierre Niney’s performance in “Yves Saint Laurent.”
Doutreleau also had kind words for Charlotte Le Bon, who plays her in the film. “She’s a good actress. She is pretty and very talented, she portrayed things as they were,” the veteran model said.
