BAG NIGHT: On Tuesday night at the company’s Milan store on via Sant’Andrea, friends of the Missoni family, their children and dogs celebrated the launch of the first bag collection entirely produced in house at Missoni’s factory in Sumirago.
“This is the first complete collection of bags we realized that not just complement the ready-to-wear collection but it stands on its own,” said Margherita Maccapani Missoni, who has been overseeing Missoni’s bag line since 2010.
Maccapani Missoni focused on four styles, which “will return in different variations season after season,” she said.
The “Miss-01” is a range of small zipped cases with handles and a shoulder strap, which for next fall will be available in hammered calf, in treated calf embroidered with Missoni’s iconic zigzag motif and in a ostrich version.
The “Miss-02” includes soft and spacious tote bags, mixing suede and calf, while the “Miss-03” range consists of more structured and rigid leather handbags.
In addition, “Miss-04” features rectangular evening clutches available in Missoni’s knitted fabrics or in silk satin with sequined embroideries.
Maccapani Missoni also decorated the bags with some of the label’s signature elements, including the rust tone used for example for the clutches’ closures and a zigzag lining originally designed by the company’s founder Ottavio Missoni.
“I’m very proud of Margherita’s work,” said Missoni creative director Angela Missoni, who added that the decision of bringing in-house the production of the bag line reflects the company’s strategy of expanding its accessories business.
