LAW & FASHION: The world of fashion and law will collide on Sept. 7th when the Fordham Law Institute hosts its first Fashion Law Pop-Up Clinics at Lincoln Center during Fashion Week. The program, which marks the 2nd anniversary of the Fashion Law Institute, offers assistance to members of the fashion industry who might not otherwise be able to find an experienced attorney — or afford one.
The pro bono initiative will coincide with a presentation of capsule collections by six designers who have worked with the Institute. The presentation will take place at The Box from 9 am to 10:15 a.m., and will include collections by lawyers-turned-designers, such as Rachel Dooley, founder of jewelry brand Gemma Redux, and Elizabeth Crotty, who currently works as criminal attorney when she isn’t designing her swimwear line Keely Rea.
A host of non-lawyers, such as women's wear designer and former "Project Runway" contestant Emmett McCarthy will also present collections.
“The goal of the Fashion Law Institute is to provide both fishing poles and fish — general educational programming about legal issues that affect the fashion industry, as well as specific legal advice for designers when they need it,” said Susan Scafidi, the Institute’s academic director. “Of all the things the Fashion Law Institute has achieved in its first two years, I’m proudest of this one.”
