FOR THE KIDS: At Avery Fisher Hall for the Baby Buggy 10th anniversary gala on Monday night, the Seinfelds and Consuelos-Ripas had a real parent-to-parent moment after bumping into each other on the red carpet.
“I miss my daughter,” Jessica Seinfeld said to Kelly Ripa mid-press line.
“She misses you, she wants to come home,” the daytime host replied, turning back to a reporter to explain: “Jessica had my daughter at a weekend sleepover and now Lola does not want to live with us anymore.”
“It’s the middle child thing,” Seinfeld noted sagely.
The expert parenting on display seemed appropriate, given the occasion. The Seinfeld-founded charity, which supplies children’s products to families in need, was celebrating its 10th anniversary. The event included stand-up sets from Colin Quinn, Jon Stewart and that other Seinfeld. The proceedings stayed mostly PG-13 and drew a parent-heavy crowd that included Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness, George Stephanopoulos and Ali Wentworth and Julianne Moore.
Back on the carpet, the conversation between Seinfeld and Ripa turned to less domestic concerns when the prospect of Ripa’s post-Regis Philbin co-host was broached.
“We’ve homed in on one,” said Seinfeld, eyeing her husband, who had recently guest hosted.
“Jessica is helping me,” Ripa said, sizing up the comedian. “So far we’ve got a favorite.”
“I can’t work those kinds of hours,” Jerry Seinfeld deadpanned.
