FOOT TO THE FLOOR: Next up for Karl Lagerfeld is a global partnership with Melissa, the Brazilian maker of colorful jelly shoes. Lagerfeld has signed on for four seasons, with the first capsule collection to be unveiled in March: four styles for fall 2013 retailing.
Tie-ups with such designers as Vivienne Westwood, Gareth Pugh and Jason Wu have already connected Melissa with high fashion. But Paulo Pedó, Melissa’s chief executive officer, called the Lagerfeld deal “one of the most exciting collaborations the company has ever seen.” Karl Lagerfeld ceo Pier Paolo Righi lauded Melissa for “translating Karl’s inspirations and designs into truly ironic, fun fashion products.”
