FIVE ALIVE: Japanese fashion fans should charge up their mobiles for multiple photo ops. Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld are coming to Tokyo to reprise the winter couture show, open a pop-up shop, and mount an exhibition devoted to Chanel’s iconic tweed jackets. The trio of events, scheduled for March 21 to 23, are to reaffirm the brand’s commitment to Japan and “re-boost” its image in a vital market, said Bruno Pavlovsky, Chanel’s president of fashion. Chanel’s last large-scale event — the opening of its 10-story tower in Ginza — was in 2004.
The exhibition — slated to run for seven weeks — comprises about 100 photos from the forthcoming book “The Little Black Jacket,” by Lagerfeld and stylist Carine Roitfeld, depicting celebrities and other personalities in Chanel jackets. The ephemeral boutique, in the Ometesando neighborhood, is to feature spring-summer ready-to-wear and accessories.
Meanwhile, back on Rue Cambon in Paris, Chanel plans to annex two adjacent boutiques as part of plans to expand the landmark store, Pavlovsky said.
