Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce Hosts Luncheon

King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway were the guests of honor at the annual gala at The Pierre hotel.

FIT FOR A KING: King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway were the guests of honor at the annual Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce gala luncheon at The Pierre hotel on Thursday, where the Norwegian-American Trade Award was bestowed on contemporary label Moods of Norway. The Norwegian economy “has traditionally been dependent on heavy industry, shipping and the export of raw materials,” noted King Harald V. “But a new wave of knowledge-based companies and businesses in the creative fields of design, fashion, media and the arts,” has emerged from the Scandinavian nation.

“Moods of Norway is representative of the up-and-coming talent in the creative industries,” he added of the brand’s Stryn, Norway-based founders, Peder Børresen, Simen Staalnacke and Stefan Dahlkvist. The latter two were on hand for the ceremony and said they have been scouting New York real estate for a potential store, which would join a Los Angeles store that opened in 2009.
