RED ALERT:London’s Camden Market was partly damaged in a fire that broke out on Monday night, and 600 people were evacuated, according to the London Fire Brigade.

The brigade deployed 10 fire engines and 17 firefighters to the Stables Market on Chalk Farm Road and said the fire was under control at around 11 p.m. There were no reported casualties, but a number of the railway arches used for retail were damaged.

“When firefighters arrived, they were faced with a fire in a range of shops under railway arches, and the smoke could be seen from miles around,″ said borough commander Richard Welch on Tuesday.

The area remains closed, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, he confirmed.

Stables Market is a popular tourist attraction selling old books, vintage clothing and jewelry. This is the second fire at Camden Market in six years. In 2008, a huge blaze devastated part of the area.
