LONDON — British labels Christopher Raeburn, Christopher Shannon, E. Tautz, Lou Dalton and Richard Nicoll have been shortlisted for the 2014 British Fashion Council/GQ designer men's wear fund.

In June, after taking part in a business mentoring program, the shortlisted designers are to pitch their business plans to a judging panel, and the winner will be selected.

The fund provides one designer with "a bespoke, high-level mentoring support program" over one year, as well as 150,000 pounds, or $252,000, to provide the infrastructure needed to take them to the next stage in their business.

The victor is also to receive advice on branding, leadership, retail, e-tail and wholesale and digital innovation as well as 50,000 pounds, or $84,000, worth of services.

The fund is aimed at labels that have been trading for a minimum of three years with U.K. and international wholesale clients, and that have gone through the existing BFC talent support schemes, or are at a similar stage in their businesses.

"Our young designers know that without a solid business background, success can be tough, which is why it is so heartening to see such strong business plans from these shortlisted designers," said Dylan Jones, editor of British GQ and chair of London Collections: Men, the fashion week for British men's wear..

Vertu, the British mobile phone firm and a supporter of the fund, is also to take part in the mentoring program and link the designers with a team of business leaders in technology, global distribution, legal and finance.
