SUI DELIGHT: It’s shaping up to be quite a year of accolades for Anna Sui. After receiving the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2009 CFDA Fashion Awards and the Classic Icon of Fashion and Design award at the China Fashion Awards earlier this year, Sui traveled to the 2009 OCA National Convention in San Francisco this past weekend. At Saturday’s banquet gala, the organization, which is devoted to furthering the social, political and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans, honored Sui with the OCA Pioneer Award. “Thinking back to my childhood and dreaming about being a fashion designer, I never realized that I would be in the position that I’m in now,” Sui said. “To receive an honor from not only the CFDA and the China Fashion Association this year, but now from the OCA National, is so exciting and I’m extremely grateful.” Past recipients of the award include set designer Ming Cho Lee, architect I.M. Pei, actress Beulah Quo and playwright David Henry Hwang.

DINNER FOR HOW MANY?: Macy’s campaign to support Feeding America kicks off Sept. 15 at the Herald Square flagship with Martha Stewart and Emeril hosting dinner for 500 people, while 650 other Macy’s around the country will serve drinks and appetizers to further the campaign, called Come Together. Also planned are 30- and 60-second TV spots directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and featuring Jessica Simpson, Queen Latifah, Mariah Carey, Usher, Tommy Hilfiger, Donald Trump, as well as Emeril and Stewart. The commercial is set in Macy’s at the close of the day where the celebrity “employees” gather over a meal peppered with unexpected twists and turns. Macy’s will also run print ads, stage a charity shopping day Oct. 17, and is asking the public to host dinners and get guests to donate to Feeding America in lieu of bringing dinner gifts. Donations will be matched by Macy’s and can be made at wwwmacys.com/cometogether and Macy’s stores. The goal is to raise enough for 10 million meals this fall. According to Feeding America, 35.5 million Americans are at risk of hunger including 12 million children.
