LADY LUCK: What do Yoko Ono, Sylvie Fleury and Sophie Calle have in common? Word has it the three prominent artists are among those who have been asked by Chanel to create works for its "Mobile Art" project involving a Zaha Hadid-designed pavilion that will travel around the world, starting in January in Hong Kong. Chanel has commissioned 15 contemporary artists and given them carte blanche to create works inspired by its iconic quilted handbag.
BRITISH INVASION: The rest of Hollywood may call it Emmy Week, but Los Angeles' British Consulate-General Bob Peirce and his American wife, Sharon Harroun Peirce, have other ideas. The highlight of the inaugural "Brit Week" will be a fashion luncheon today at their Hancock Park residence featuring a Zandra Rhodes fashion show and a bevy of Brit beauties such as Victoria Beckham. Harroun Peirce, former fashion publicist from Washington, says she hopes to make it into an annual event. "People think it's exciting to be invited to an event at the consulate, so I try to make each one really special. And each invitation clearly states a dress code," she added. Still, the practice hasn't prevented the fashions from running the gamut from sequins to blue jeans. "At least in Los Angeles, individualism is part of the attitude here, so people can pull it off. It's a bit different from Washington," she said.
STELLA FOR STARS: Malibu, Calif., moms Liane Weintraub and Shannon Swanson have a fan in Stella McCartney, who caught sight of a magazine story about their organic baby food line, TastyBaby, and contacted the two to ask them to host a shopping benefit for the Children's Action Network this Saturday at the Stella store on Melrose Avenue. The event will feature activities for tots while their famous moms — Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Capshaw, Courteney Cox Arquette, Cindy Crawford, Angie Harmon, Rosetta Getty, Jennifer Meyer, Gabrielle Reece and Jamie Tisch among them — preview the spring collection.
