NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: Swiss fashion house Akris is giving a nod to American art this fall, and, in a partnership with the Whitney Museum of American Art, will sponsor the 2007 Whitney Gala and its Studio Party. The Oct. 22 gala and party are themed "Shades of Gray" and will honor artist Chuck Close, whose large tapestries of contemporary artists will be on show that night. The Whitney couldn't be a better fit for Akris — at least not if you ask Akris designer Albert Kriemler. "The Whitney creates a platform for culture that speaks to today, and challenges thinking for tomorrow," he said in a statement. "This point of view transcends trends, and is completely cohesive with how I approach my collections." Gala co-chairs will include Melva Bucksbaum and Amy Phelan, while the downstairs Studio after party has hosts including Lisa Anastos, Holly Newman Kroft, Lauren Bush, Taryn Simon, Amanda Hearst, Dalia Oberlander, Terence Koh and Martin Dawson.

ELBAZ TOPS THE ROCK: Lanvin fans will be sure to buy raffle tickets, when Alber Elbaz is feted by the Couture Council of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology Sept. 5 at the Rainbow Room. The designer will address the lunchtime crowd and show a video of his latest collection before Harper's Bazaar editor in chief Glenda Bailey presents him with the Couture Council Award. And Elbaz clearly has two big fans: Linda Evangelista and Chloë Sevigny were among the first to RSVP.
