MR. DRESS-UP: Karl Lagerfeld, who was in the south of France over Halloween shooting Claudia Schiffer for next spring's Chanel campaign, did not get a chance to see designer Roberto Cavalli masquerading as him at a New York costume party. But Lagerfeld's hardly surprised. "I am a popular figure for Halloween," he said. "Last year friends of mine counted 19 copies [of me] they saw at their parties alone." And the best Lagerfeld getup he's seen to date? "James Kaliardos from Visionaire," Lagerfeld said. "I think it's a great complement." Unfortunately, it's one that's not so easy to return. "Few [designers] have a very special way of dressing. They are 'classic' or jeans and T-shirt, so what can I take from them?" he lamented, then mused: "Ralph Lauren like a cowboy could be fun..." The peripatetic designer is headed next to Deauville for another photo session, and then to Neuss, near Düsseldorf in Germany, where the Langen Foundation is hosting a major Lagerfeld photo exhibition in its Tadao Ando-designed gallery.
NARCISO'S NIGHT: Narciso Rodriguez admitted he's "very shy" at the Aid for AIDS' My Heroes gala at Capitale Thursday night, but he's figured out at least one way to make social affairs more enjoyable. "You take somebody who's really fun, and it becomes much more about having a good time for a good cause than having to get dressed up," he said. Rodriguez was honored for his fund-raising efforts for Aid for AIDS, which provides medicine to children with AIDS in Latin America. His fun companion for the evening was Eva Mendes, who flew in for the event from Milan. The two teased each other as they recalled how they met at The Delano in Miami five years ago. "Do you remember that?" Mendes asked Rodriguez, to which he answered, "Vaguely." "I remember all of it," said Mendes. "I remember when we first said hello, I remember the first hug." She eventually forgave him for his forgetfulness. "He's a man, they don't remember stuff." Mendes, who's filming "The Spirit" with Scarlett Johansson in New Mexico, wore a purple Rodriguez dress.
