MORE THAN A RING: Eli Manning and the New York Giants may have won Super Bowl XLII in February, but they're still not sporting their championship rings. Described by Manning at the Costume Institute gala on Monday as "very bling," the 1.5-carat diamond rings are set to be finished in the next few months. They were designed by members of the team in conjunction with Tiffany and Co., and especially by defensive end Michael Strahan, who, Manning said, waltzed into the design meeting 30 minutes late and declared, "I want a 10-table ring." A 10-table ring — what's that? "When I walk into a restaurant, I want you to be able to see it from 10 tables away," Strahan explained.

It sounds like the end result is a little garish for the tastes of Manning's wife, Abby. "He won't be wearing it," she informed her table at the Met. "I might wear it for a few months," Manning, the Super Bowl's MVP, sheepishly replied.

HAMMER TIME: A new frontier has broken out in the luxury handbag wars — and it's all for a good cause. Rare and collectible Fendi and Chanel purses will be among items auctioned off by Sharon Stone May 22 at the amfAR gala during the Cannes Film Festival. Silvia Venturini Fendi really went to town, creating a plain white canvas baguette and inviting 20 art world stars to customize them in aid of various charities. Participants include Jeff Koons, Kendell Geers, Francesco Vezzoli, Subodh Gupta, Sylvie Fleury and Tom Sachs, who painted his black, signed it and noted, "Please Display Other Side." Meanwhile, at Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld went full-throttle luxury, creating a lustrous alligator style with a double-C clasp pavéd in 334 diamonds.

GENERATION JUMPING: La Redoute has bagged another glam mother-daughter fashion coupling for its next catalogue — still with a franglais twist. Following in the footsteps of Jane Birkin and Lou Doillon for spring, the mail-order giant has tapped Paris-based British actress Kristin Scott Thomas and her 20-year-old student daughter, Hannah, to model in its fall edition, due for release in June. The pair selected around 15 pieces from the catalogue's range for the shoot, photographed by Marcel Hartmann.
