Fashion folk might balk at the idea, but that's exactly what one unassuming but observant guest suggested at Bergdorf Goodman's cocktail party for Stella McCartney Thursday night when he noticed his own H&M jacket bore a striking resemblance to the Bergdorf president's glen plaid suit, right down to the double vents. Meanwhile, on Madison Avenue, a partygoer's Yves Saint Laurent stilettos were drawing stares. "Excuse me, are those the Tributes," asked one stocky man, dressed in wide-striped shorts, tennis shoes and wraparound sunglasses. "Yeah, those shoes were on TV this morning," piped in an MTA worker. "On 'Regis and Kelly,' $650." Who says fashion isn't democratic?
BUSY FRIDA: All work and no play won't make Frida Giannini a dull girl next month as Gucci's creative director is gearing up for an events-heavy June agenda. On June 8, the designer will cohost a party in Venice at Palazzo Grassi with Franca Sozzani to celebrate the Art Issue of L'Uomo Vogue and the magazine's preview of the Sequence One exhibition that will be displayed in the same venue. Five days later, Giannini will cross the ocean to New York, where on June 13 she will present her first women's fragrance for Gucci. Needless to say, all details are still bottled away. The following day, Giannini will stage her cruise fashion show at Milk Studios and, that same evening, attend a dinner in her honor hosted by Interview's Ingrid Sischy and Sandy Brandt at the Waverly Inn.
TAKE FIVE: Film projects about Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel seem to be as perennially à la mode as her signature perfumes. French actress Marina Hands, who won a Caesar this year for her lead role in "Lady Chatterly," has said yes to the lead role in a film project of William Friedkin about the late couturier's affair with composer Igor Stravinski. But that isn't the only potential Chanel bio-pic generating buzz in Paris. Director Daniele Thompson is said to be eyeing a Chanel project, and Audrey Tatou's name has been floated as a possible star for yet another Chanel film. Don't line up at the box office yet, though. No films can be made about the legendary designer without the house's permission, and a Chanel spokeswoman said it has yet to be sought or granted.
