FLORENTINE EXTRAVAGANZA: Diane von Furstenberg is getting ready to shake things up in Florence during Pitti Uomo. Actually, she's already around since two Fiat 500s with big lips splattered over them and the DVF logo are zipping around town, courtesy of Lapo Elkann.

Come Wednesday night, von Furstenberg will serve cocktails for a crowd of 500 that should include the Elkanns, Christian Louboutin, the Ferragamos, Delfina Fendi, Natalia Vodianova and Justin Portman, Tracy Emin and Gelasio Gaetani. A runway show of her new cruise collection, called La Petite Valise, and an informal dinner will follow. The soiree will take place at the Giardino Torrigiani, the city's largest private garden that include portions of the city's original Medici walls. Eager to create a lighthearted atmosphere, the gardens will be abuzz with children, including von Furstenberg's "trusted assistant" — her nine-year-old granddaughter, Talita von Furstenberg. The following day, Lapo Elkann will host a private lunch for von Furstenberg in an undisclosed venue.

STORE CLOSURE: Louis Vuitton executives are continuing talks with local Chinese authorities in Hangzhou following the closure of the company's flagship in the Chinese city on June 5 in a dispute over quality certification. According to local reports, officials from the provincial Administration of Industry and Commerce visited the store and confiscated the bulk of the merchandise in a dispute over product quality standards. LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton said in April, officials from the Consumer Protection Division under the Industry and Commerce Administration of Zhejiang Province conducted a sampling inspection of the store and its products. A month later, Vuitton was told the three Vuitton products sampled were considered to not be in accordance with the QB/T1333-2004 standard due to lack of material samples on them. Last week, the authorities took the other 556 pieces of handbags and luggage from the store and Vuitton decided to close it. "Currently, we are in discussion with Zhejiang AIC in search of a mutually agreeable solution for both parties," the company said. "We're working toward a solution and think one will be found in the next few days," Louis Vuitton China's communication director Grace Zhao told WWD. "We are confident that the situation will be resolved soon. The store remains closed, we will find a solution soon, but it is not yet clear when."
