STYLIN' WITH THE MAYOR: Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa showed his stylish side on Thursday, when he welcomed the Council of Fashion Designers of America, trade show organizers Designers & Agents, eco nonprofit organization Earth Pledge and dozens of designers at an evening garden party at his official residence, the Getty House. Though his 14-year-old daughter Natalia is a big fashion fan, and her 29-year-old sister, Prisila Villar, is studying marketing at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology, the mayor conceded he has much to learn about environmentally sustainable design, which was the theme of the soiree. Upon seeing a cashmere dress made of recycled materials, he remarked, "God — only in Los Angeles." Among the designers who came to check out their sustainable looks on display were VPL's Victoria Bartlett, Trina Turk, Trovata's John Whitledge, Magda Berliner, Diego Binetti and The Stronghold's Michael Cassel and Michael Paradise. For her selection, Rozae Nichols hand-punched paillettes out of plastic bottles and stuffed a vest with Spanish moss for insulation. Regarding sustainable fashion, Nichols said it's all about "what you need and what you love. Everything else in between is too much."
LILY FETES KIM: Lily Allen swooped into a private dinner party in London Thursday night to toast her good friend Kim Jones, who has recently been named creative director of Dunhill. Decked in denim shorts, black leggings and a striped sailor top, Allen told 20 guests, "I'm so happy he's found a new home." Allen, showing off a sparkly new Chanel bag, joined guests including Jefferson Hack and Anouck Lepère.
